You can use the modern fluorescent lamps in these fixtures or the normal incandescent lamps available at most lighting stores. Some people prefer the yellow light that the normal bulbs give out, as these lamps make them feel nostalgic and romantic. However, the wattage these lamps consume can be as high as 100 watts or 150 watts, so they can consume high levels of energy. So, many people now prefer the fluorescent lamp that consumes less electricity. However, you may still go in for the lights with a yellow tinge for their overall appeal. You can easily find the outdoor ceiling lights at your favorite lighting store, or you can easily purchase these online. However, before you make a final decision regarding a purchase, be sure that you are buying the right product and it goes with the general décor and ambience of your house. With the right type of fixtures, you will be able to transform your home into a warm and welcoming abode.
The next step is positioning your new ceiling lights so that you can connect the wires from the fixture to the ones coming out of the ceiling. Once all the wires are connected you need to carefully lift your new fixture up to the ceiling, pushing the wires up with it, and then line up the screw holes with the ones in the mounting bracket. Tightly secure your lights to the ceiling with the correct screws or bolts – this may take two people depending on the size of your fixture. Testing. Once you've finished connecting your new ceiling lights, simply turn the electricity back on and flip the switch. If your room lights up then you've done it correctly. If not, then you will have to switch the electricity back off and check your connections. It is a good idea to check and see if other electrical items in the room are working as you may have blown a fuse – this simple test could save you hours of trying to find a problem with the wires.
Remove previous fixture. The first step in removing the fixture is to undo the screws (or bolts) that hold the light to the ceiling and pull it down carefully. Once the light is loose you will be able to access the electrical wires, which you disconnect by unscrewing the wire caps that hold them together. You will also need to unscrew and remove the mounting bracket that is attached to the electrical box as this may not be the correct fitting for your new light. Installing your new lights. Your new ceiling light fixture will have come with a mounting bracket. This will look like a solid piece of metal with screw holes and is likely to be shaped like a plate or a strip. The mounting bracket needs to be securely mounted to the electrical box in the ceiling with the wires hanging down around the bracket. Make sure that you attach the ground wire to the grounding screw on the mounting bracket.
When you are hanging a ceiling light and there is no table to help you determine the correct size, you must consider the size of the room as well as the ceiling height. The guideline to follow for hanging height is to allow 2 1/2 to 3” per foot of ceiling height. So, if you have a 12 foot ceiling, (12 ft x 2.5”) your light would hang approximately 30” from your ceiling. Lights should never hang lower than 7 feet from the floor for clearance purposes. To determine the correct width of your fixture, determine the room dimensions. Add the width of your room to the length of the room. For example, if your entry way is 8 feet wide and 14 feet long, this equals 22 feet. Convert this number to inches, and viola, this is the approximate width of the needed light fixture for this room; 22 inches.
Top View Lamps: Top view lamps became popular after the introduction of contemporary lighting. Top view lamps are a form of ceiling lights where modern light fixtures have LED tubes that are twisted and arched to suit the shape of the lighting design. The top view light fixtures can be made of different coloured stained glass to gel with the wall colour and also to give a trendy and vibrant look. Spotlights: Spotlights are also used as ceiling lights. Most of the corridor ceilings, bathroom ceilings, kitchen ceilings and dining room ceilings have spotlights to highlight a particular spot or area with focused lighting. In living rooms spotlights are used to highlight are work and exclusive decorative pieces.
